Ritual Ceremony - Agnes Ishak

Ylia Sawitzki

What I find fascinating about carving is that it’s not not like I create a figure, but the figure already seems to be there somehow, just waiting to come out. It’s like translating something from one language into another – one is more like a feeling, the other something to touch. Especially when carving faces I’m always amazed about the characters that emerge.

And I love it when they express that kind of deep peace and knowing, that I have experienced in beautiful still moments of meditation, but never thought myself able to communicate.
